Information

Elephants were certainly the most characteristic, though not the most important, part of Mughul armies.
Male elephants were bred specifically as fighting machines, and some Mughul generals claimed one elephant was worth 500 horsemen in battle; maybe a slightly biased claim.
This model represents a fully armoured elephant, common in armies from the reign of Akbar onwards, though elephants had been deployed from the time of the founder of the Mughul Empire, Babur, in 1526, when he encountered them in Indian armies at the First Battle of Panipat.
