Our latest BATTLE FOR WARGAMERS is now online - The Battle of Old Byland 14th October 1322 - Special 700th Anniversary extended edition

British Forces

After the Argentine invasion, the British ordered the assembly of a naval task force to retake the islands, including 43 warships, 22 Royal Fleet Auxiliaries, and 62 merchant vessels. Vulcan bombers took out the runway at Port Stanley, forcing the Argentine air force to fly from the mainland for the rest of the war. On May 21 the British landed 4,000 men and began to push south and east across the island. After key victories at Goose Green and Mount Kent, an additional 5,000 men arrived and the British forces assaulted Port Stanley. With the Argentinians surrounded and blockaded at sea, they were forced to surrender on June 14th, ending the conflict.
